On Monday, the NBA announced the Los Angeles Lakers would be playing in the 2017-18 NBA Finals for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
The announcement of the Los, Lakers being back in the Finals was met with mixed reactions.
The NBA is known for being somewhat conservative when it comes to scheduling its own games, and it was thought that the Los Angels would only play once or twice during the regular season and maybe once in the playoffs.
However, after hearing rumors that the NBA might have a 2018 schedule change, many were quick to voice their displeasure.
However, the Los Lakers did have an opportunity to make history.
The NBA announced Monday that the league would start the season off with its own playoff game, which will be played on the NBA’s first-ever Saturday night game, the Lakers-Knicks at 8 p.m.
This will mark the first season the Lakers and Knicks will face off in a regular season game, and there are several players who could make their way into the NBA for the 2020-21 season.
On Wednesday, former Los Angeles Clippers star and current Los Angeles Kings center DeAndre Jordan said he was confident that the Lakers would make it to the Finals.
Jordan, who is set to make a $2.3 million base salary for the 2021-22 season, told ESPN that he would be “extremely excited” if the Lakers were to make it.
“I know I’m going to have a lot of fun in the next four years with the Lakers,” Jordan said.
“I don’t want to go to another team and say, ‘Oh, I just don’t think it’s going to happen.’
I want to be there and I want the Lakers to be here.”
So I want them to be very, very proud of what they did.
But they’re going to be really excited for me.
I’ll definitely have a big smile on my face.
